Five Globes Awarded Self catering holiday Cottage near Brantome in the South West of France. The tiny hamlet of Chazelles lies in the lovely valley of the ' Smiling Dronne', The cottage has been lovingly converted from an ancient stone barn standing on its own half-acre site of garden and meadow. The meadow has a private pool, just 30 metres from the house.The villages, hills and forests all around are steeped in history and offer exciting possibilities for exploring prehistoric and medieval sites by car or on foot. Chazelles itself was a noted river crossing for the Roman legions and local Gauls. It is believed that a coinage mint stood here in the Merovingian period. Nowadays the quiet country lanes make walking and cycling a delightful way to enjoy this Parc Naturel (National Park) Markets , shops, restaurants, discos, cinemas are all within a few minutes in the local villages. The baker, butcher and grocer's vans call regularly in the hamlet.

Ground floor.Oak beams and original stone-work set the tone for the lounge. The inglenook fireplace incorporating the ancient bread oven is complimented by the handsome Jotul wood-burning stove. This spacious room is furnished with a colonial style three piece suite, DVD/CD player and satellite tv, farmhouse pine dining suite.

Spacious fitted kitchen with limed oak units, dining table and chairs, double sink, dishwasher, gas cooker, microwave grill, 300 litre larder fridge, drinks fridge. High chair available (no charge) shower room with wc, wash basin and shower. Utility room with larder freezer, auto washer, and ironing equipment. Quality cutlery and tableware is supplied.

First floor ( sleeps up to 4 adults and 2 children) Spacious master bedroom with king size bed, wardrobe, chests of drawers. The bathroom with marble wash basin and both bath and shower can be either en-suite with the master bedroom or as a separate family bathroom.

Double room with two singles or one double bed. Chest of drawers and wardrobe.Additional child's beds and or cot avaialble (no charge) .

Bed linen and house towels are supplied free of charge. Pool towels can be provided on request.

Outdoors. Gravelled courtyard to the front with outdoor dining furniture and barbecue There is a lawned floral garden to the rear and the adjacent meadow with private pool and ball games area.

The 21 by 7 foot pool has easy-access roman steps to shallow end,

5 foot deep "larking about" area, hot shower and a child security alarm and loungers. The meadow is pleasant and private, thoughtfully planted with aromatics and specimen shrubs.

Longterm rental available from October 2008. Rental 550€ per month.
