Holiday home in Herault Languedoc Large village house open air pool in village

This 4 bedroomed village house dates back to medieval times, and has been extensively restored to reflect modern standards of comfort. Lunas is located there, where the vineyards of Languedoc gently rise into the Petit Montagne of Haut Languedoc. The entire village has been designated a conservation area within the National Park. This is where Cyprus trees meet Chestnut forests in an unspoiled landscape that only this part of the Mediterranean can offer. Between Bedariaux and Lodeve, The village is 20 minutes from the free Autoroute, A 75,the extension of the A 71 from Paris. Approximately an hours drive from the famous Millau viaduct, but only 50 minutes from the coast.

The house commands superb views from two balconies. A shaded courtyard, and open Terrace offer outside space to relax and sunbathe. The house is within a short walk to all the village facilities. Built on three levels, the house has a large living room with adjoining kitchen, two large double bedrooms, a smaller double bedroom, a twin bedded room and bathroom, en suite shower room and cloakroom, each with WC. The house has been refurbished to reflect its Mediterranean character, with simple white walls, and furnishings in soft pastel tones of cream, blues and greens. The kitchen is well equipped, with an electric oven, with gas hob, microwave and large fridge freezer. Ideal for two families sharing, or small groups, the lay out over three floors means that two parties can enjoy separate space, with their own balconies, and bathrooms. The washing machine is situated in the lower bathroom. Drying can be done on the large top terrace, or either of the balconies, or in the tiny garden at the bottom of the house.

The large lower bedroom has a barrel vaulted ceiling and was the ancient granary. The exposed stone walls give a distinctly medieval atmosphere to this light and attractive room. With its own balcony and family bathroom, it is almost a self contained Suite.

The large living room with comfortable cream sofas, and pretty dining area, leads onto a balcony with views over the village, and down the beautiful Orb Valley. There are no other properties in front of us, and views are uninterrupted. A wonderful place to relax and sunbathe. There is TV with a DVD player, and several DVD s plus a radio / c.d. player, in this room.

Although Grand Rue is only a tiny narrow lane. in reality, it is possible to drive a medium sized car down, to off load. Residents’ parking is at the top of grand Rue, at the start of the hiking trail. This is a grassed car park, only two or three minutes from the house. Cases and shopping can be off/on loaded outside the front door.

Lunas spans the Gravezon, tributary of the Orb and there are five bridges in the village! It lies 68km west of Montpelier and 49km north of Beziers. The village has a boulangerie and good local grocer, post office, internet centre, café bar, leisure centre with open air pools and two hotel /restaurants. The 17th century Chateau de Lunas also offers a very romantic restaurant with terraces overlooking the river. Full range of shops and services is available at Bousquet d'Orb (2km) while the nearest towns are Lodeve and Bedarieux at 14km.Both have weekly markets offering a range of wonderful local produce! The nearest beaches are less than an hour away, and fish restaurants are plentiful in Sete, and the ancient fishing village of Meze on the Bassin du Thau.
