Our 6 acres estate La Genestière lies between the old Roman towns of Orange and Vaison-la-Romaine at the heart of “La Provence des Papes”, in south-eastern France. Its origin can be traced back to the end of the 15th century when it belonged to Diane de Poitiers, who, for more than 20 years, was the influencing lover of the French King Henri II, husband of Catherine de Médicis. Mary, Queen of Scots, befriends the king's true lover, Diane de Poitiers. In July 1559, Henri II was mortally wounded in a mock tourney held as part of the ten day festivities celebrating the marriage of his son Francis to Mary.

La Genestière comprises olive trees and orchards, an historic Provencal farmhouse, (our “Mas”) and a cottage that has been equipped so that it can be rented separately as a tranquil and sunny Provencal holiday home available for 8 to 10 people.

South facing :

A large open plan living room (500 sqf) with fireplace, convertible sofa, TV, Bookshelves… open off a fully equipped kitchen (refrigerator and freezer, washing machine and dishwasher, electric oven, electric kettle, toaster, coffee maker…) and a dining area with a large farm table.

En-suite is a sunny terrace (300 sqf) and pergola with garden appliances perfect for breakfast time in the early sun, or to while away an evening over a bottle of wine chosen earlier in the day.

West:

-2 rooms : one with a double bed, one with 2 single beds

-Bathroom and independent toilets

East:

-2 rooms : one with a double bed, one with 2 single beds

These are 2 separate areas usable for example by 2 families, each having their own separate facilities and sharing the large living room.

Adjacent to the barn is a large (10x5 m) private swimming pool (enclosed as per the new legislation) for the exclusive use of the holiday home situated in a private garden equipped with BBQ, garden appliances and surrounded by century old oaks, poplars, olives trees and lavender.

The estate lies between the old Roman towns of Orange and Vaison-la-Romaine that are well worth a visit as is the nearby Avignon with its papal palace and bridge.

The surrounding countryside is a gourmet’s paradise. The next village Ste-Cécile-les-Vignes(3 miles),, has a Marché provençal , Carpentras is famous for black truffles, Nyons for olive oil and Baumes-de-Venise for its desert wine.
