Merle is a charmingly spacious country house situated off a private lane. It is a tranquil place where you can relax in comfort and take life slowly, having everything you need for those seeking a relaxing holiday. Set in grounds of over 2 acres with your own private swimming pool and surrounded by wonderful views of gently rolling countryside. Perfectly situated outside the village this lovely stone farmhouse whilst retaining many original features has been fully restored and tastefully decorated to a high standard with all modern facilities. 25 kms south of Bergerac, it is an ideal base for visitors to S.W. France.

Merle comfortably sleeps 10 people, having 4 bedrooms (1 family bedroom being on the ground floor and suitable for the elderly and/or disabled and 2 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedroom upstairs), 3 bathrooms (1 of these downstairs), large open plan living area with comfortable armchairs and sofas around a woodburning stove. The dining area has a large oak table and chairs to seat 10 people. The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric 2-oven range cooker with gas hobs, microwave, double sink, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and food processor. There is a laundry room with washing machine sink and ironing facilities.

Wifi internet access, Satellite tv, DVD player and films, radio/cd player, board games, large selection of books.

Outside is a 10 x 5m swimming pool with roman steps (cleaned daily), a south facing paved covered terrace with a large table and chairs for up to 10 people, paved sun terrace, loungers, and a stone barbecue.

25 minutes drive south of Bergerac and the famous Château of Monbazillac, St. Colomb de Lauzun, which is just into the department of Lot et Garonne, is ideal for touring the Dordogne valley and the vineyards of St. Emilion and Bordeaux.

Lot et Garonne is a department of gently rolling countryside and pretty bastide villages such as Castillonnés, Villereal and Monflanquin, where weekly markets are held in the cobbled squares. There are many good restaurants within easy reach where you can try the local gastronomic delights such as foie gras and confit de canard. This is also the area for walnuts and prunes and on a warm summer evening you can smell the wonderful aroma from the prune ovens in the village.

3 kms from St. Colomb de Lauzun is the village of Lauzun which has all your basic shopping requirements such as a small supermarket, butcher, baker, pharmacy, newsagent, post-office and bank plus a good restaurant and a café. Also worth a visit is the 14th-17th Century Château. For more extensive shopping try Bergerac, Marmande, Villeneuve-sur-Lot and Bordeaux.

Every village has its own annual fête, and Lauzun has a ‘Gasconnade’ in mid-August. There is wine tasting, local produce to sample such as cheese, honey, pates and cakes, and the evening sees around 400 people sitting at tables put out in the main street to eat a five-course meal prepared by a local restaurant. The wine flows, the band plays and a good time is had by all!
