A modernised village house with roof-terrace and spectacular views over the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean coastline. The house sleeps seven people (plus cot) in four bedrooms. A short walk to the village square with its shops and church.

Banyuls dels Aspres is a village with a population of around 1000. It is 11 miles from Perpignan, 11 miles from the Spanish border and 11 miles from the Mediterranean sea. Set at the top of a low hill in the Roussillon plain, it is a mile or so from the main road from Perpignan to Barcelona. The village boasts a bar where meals are sometimes served, a baker’s, a tabac, a post office, a hairdresser and occasional seasonal craft shops. The advantage of the location is that you can enjoy the coastal tourist resorts during the day, and retreat in the evening to your comfortable house in a friendly, unpretentious village.

The house is on three floors with a roof-terrace. The ground floor consists entirely of the living-room with kitchen and dining area. Comfortable seating with satellite television, a radio/cassette player and telephone. The kitchen contains a dish-washer, microwave, one of two fridges, a four-ring electric double-oven cooker as well as adequate equipment and utensils. The dining-table seats seven people with ease.

The first floor contains a single bedroom, a twin bedroom, the shower-room with shower, basin, w.c. and washing-machine. There is a separate w.c. also.

The second floor comprises the double bedroom and the second twin bedroom. A cot is provided. The double bedroom gives access to the second shower and wash-basin. Stairs lead up to the roof terrace. This is in three sections – a ‘glass-house’ containing the second fridge and stove, kettle etc.; one outside area for the washing-line; and the other outside area for sitting-out, sunbathing or dining. This latter area contains a barbecue, dining-table and seating, external lighting. From the roof-terrace, there is a panoramic view along the eastern ridge of the Pyrenees and along the coastline to Perpignan and beyond; and then round to the hills in the north and the foothills of Pic Canigou. Magnificent indeed.

The house is all electric. Linen and towels are provided, but you should bring your own towels for sunbathing or for the beach. There are no extra costs. Heating is by electric fan or convector heaters. Electricity is free except between late autumn and early spring when we can reach agreement on covering heating costs. We send keys to you in advance. The standard of equipment, furnishings and décor is very high throughout. There is adequate parking at the back of the church or in the village square.

The sandy beaches at Canet and St.Cyprien have won European awards for their cleanliness. They are usually supervised. Where the Pyrenees come down to the sea there are many rocky coves worthy of exploration. All major sports facilities are available at Le Boulou and Perpignan. There are excellent restaurants in the area, many well written up in the house’s travel journal. Flights from London Stansted and other UK airports go to Carcassonne, Perpignan and Gerona. Otherwise, the main international airports are at Toulouse and Barcelona.
