This charming, two bedroom house was recently extended in traditional style but to modern day standards, with locally crafted oak floors and staircases linking the three floors. A classic medieval "bastide", Lauzerte boasts the coveted label of "one of the most beautiful villages in France" but retains all amenities including farmers' markets and a good choice of restaurants for all pockets. The village features many summer activities, including the magical Nuits de Lauzerte contemporary arts festival (1st weekend of August), open air theatre, cafe concerts... Local bars on the arcaded village square, (less than 5 minutes walk) offer free Wi-Fi access. A short walk down our lane brings you to a good selection of shops, including a bank cash-point, baker, greengrocer, pizzeria etc. and an English speaking Doctor. At the bottom of Lauzerte hill (two minutes' drive) there is an excellent supermarket and a chemist.

The accommodation:

The house is on three levels built into a steep hillside. The Chemin des Horts marks the limit of the medieval city walls and part of the original wall can be seen through a lighted window on the lower floor. The street entrance from Chemin des Horts is level with the private parking terrace and opens onto the upper floor.

This upper (or second) floor houses the second bedroom (double bed, built-in wardrobe and two bedside cabinets giving generous drawer space). Off the bedroom is a part tiled modern shower room (shower, wash basin, WC, electric towel rail, bathroom cabinet, extractor fan and shaver plug).

The master bedroom and main bathroom are on the middle (or first) floor. The modern part tiled bathroom is fully fitted (bath with mixer tap, WC, wash basin with vanity mirror. electric towel rail, bathroom cabinet, extractor fan and shaver plug, also hairdryer and straightener). The light and spacious master bedroom has two pairs of French windows and Juliet balconies with stunning views (kingsize bed, bedside cabinets, hanging space, large chest of drawers, double settee/also sofa bed, TV/DVD player.)

The lower (or ground) floor has a generously sized cloakroom/utility room (washing machine, WC and electric towel rail, extractor fan and shaving plug). Here the architect-designed kitchen/dining/sitting area (dining table and chairs, three-seater settee and arm chair) has a tiled floor and two pairs of French doors opening onto the terrace. This wide and secluded terrace is fringed with shrubs and a small shady tree and overlooks the roof of a 14th century church, where pilgrims used to sleep waiting for the city gates to open, and the green rolling valley beyond. Ample patio/garden furniture and BBQ and cooking utensils are provided.

The fully equipped galley kitchen has new, traditional style oak kitchen units with integrated oven, hob, hood, refrigerator and separate refrigerator/freezer. Other equipment includes steam iron and ironing board, electric kettle, electric toaster, filter coffee maker, microwave oven,

The TV receives English TV and radio channels. Aipod charger is also at your disposal.

Good quality towels, and kitchen and bed linen are provided. Guests are responsible for their own laundry during their stay and there is an outdoor washing line.
